A lifelong passion for piano

Dr. Baek's journey with the piano began at the young age of four, quickly blossoming into a lifelong passion. This deep-seated love for music was a natural enjoyment that has driven her to excel. As the Invitational Scholarship Winner at Nyack College in New York, she earned the top scholarship, profoundly shaping her musical life as a pianist. During her time at Nyack, she also shared her knowledge by tutoring music theory and ear training classes.

Extensive education and experience

Driven by a thirst for knowledge and mastery, Dr. Baek continued her studies at the State University of New York at Purchase (SUNY Purchase). After earning her Master's degree, she pursued an Artist Diploma at SUNY while serving as a staff accompanist for the Voice Department—providing piano support for oratorios, operas, and art songs. Her academic journey reached its pinnacle at Rutgers University, where she earned a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in an extraordinary 3.5 years at the age of 30. Dr. Baek's dissertation offered a profound analysis of Olivier Messiaen's Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus, demonstrating her masterful command of music theory and her exceptional ability to dissect avant-garde works with precision and insight.

With a teaching career spanning back to her high school years, Dr. Baek brings a wealth of experience to her studio. She welcomes students from age four to adults, catering to all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Her genuine love for children has led to lasting relationships with numerous families, some of whom she has taught three and four children over the course of 12 years. Beyond piano, Dr. Baek is a skilled pipe organist. She performed Handel's Messiah on organ and regularly accompanied for worship services.
